We are Muddy Rivers Concrete, a veteran-owned concrete contractor based in Blue Grass, Iowa. Todd Flammang started this company in 2017, but the truth is he has been doing this work most of his life. He was 7 years old the first time he helped his father on a job. After high school, he enlisted in the Army. After that came concrete work on military bases in Kansas and Missouri, then union commercial jobs in the Quad Cities, then two years doing union work in San Diego.     Most of the time this is a sealer issue or the absence of one. We apply a salt guard sealer on our work specifically to prevent this. Surface flaking happens faster in climates with freeze and thaw cycles and road salt exposure.

    The ground beneath it was not properly compacted or underpinned at installation. As the soil settles, the concrete follows. This is a base problem, not a surface problem.

  • Why did my driveway crack so quickly?

    Most likely your previous contractor did not install adequate base rock. Without at least 4 inches of base, the concrete is essentially sitting on soil that shifts. When the soil moves, the slab cracks.

  • My patio has standing water. Can that be fixed?

    Yes. If there is not enough slope built into the slab to move water away from the house or structure, we can address the fall when we replace or install new concrete. We make sure water drains away, not toward it.

  • What reinforcement do you use?
